Handheld paintings
Commissioned by Philip Elbourne
In the early years of the twenty-first century, I made paintings to the exact dimensions of the leading smartphone brand, releasing a new series to match each subsequent generation of phones, until they started to role out new models faster than I could respond.
When we entered the the first covid lockdown in March 2020, I produced a batch of hand-held painting panels in the dimensions of the newest model, from locally sourced English oak. I sent these to a few artist friends, as a way to maintain community in isolation and keep producing on a small scale.
